Yes, absolutely. Prescriptly is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), the independent regulator for pharmacies in Great Britain. Hair Loss
Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is primarily caused by a genetic sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone derived from testosterone. DHT causes susceptible hair follicles to shrink over time, producing thinner, shorter hairs until eventually the follicle stops producing visible hair altogether. It typically follows a predictable pattern, starting with a receding hairline or thinning at the crown.
Very common. Approximately 50% of men experience noticeable hair loss by the age of 50, and it can begin as early as the late teens or early twenties. By age 70, around 80% of men will have experienced some degree of hair loss. It's one of the most common cosmetic concerns among men worldwide.
While hair loss cannot always be fully reversed, clinically proven treatments can effectively slow its progression and, in many cases, promote significant regrowth. The earlier treatment is started, the better the potential outcomes, as it's easier to maintain existing hair than to regrow hair that has been lost for a long time. Our clinical team can advise on realistic expectations during your consultation.
The earlier you begin treatment, the better the potential outcomes. If you've noticed your hairline receding, thinning at the crown, or increased hair shedding, it's worth starting a consultation. Early intervention gives you the best chance of retaining your existing hair and potentially regrowing hair in areas of recent thinning.
Treatment
We offer a range of clinically proven treatments for male pattern hair loss, including oral treatments, topical treatments, and combination therapy. The specific treatment recommended will depend on your individual circumstances, medical history, and the stage of your hair loss. Our clinicians will advise on the most appropriate option during your consultation.
Most men begin to see results within 3–6 months of consistent use. You may notice reduced shedding within the first 1–2 months, with early signs of regrowth appearing around months 3–4. Optimal results are typically achieved after 12 months of continuous treatment. It's important to be patient and consistent — hair growth is a gradual process.
Like all medicines, hair loss treatments can have side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Common side effects are generally mild and may include scalp irritation with topical treatments or, rarely, changes in libido with oral treatments. Most side effects resolve on their own. Our clinicians will discuss potential risks with you during your consultation. If you experience any concerning side effects, contact us or your GP immediately.
Hair loss treatments work while you use them. If you stop treatment, hair loss is likely to resume and any hair that was regrown may gradually be lost again over the following months. Many men choose to continue treatment long-term to maintain their results. Our team will discuss your options and preferences during follow-up consultations.
Consultations
Yes, your initial clinical consultation is completely free. There is no obligation to proceed with treatment. You only pay if a treatment is prescribed and you choose to go ahead. We believe everyone should have access to expert medical advice without financial barriers.
You'll need to provide details about your medical history, any current medications you're taking, known allergies, and information about your hair loss (when it started, pattern, family history). Being thorough and honest is essential — this information helps our clinicians ensure any treatment prescribed is safe and appropriate for you.
If our clinical team determines that treatment is not suitable for you, we will clearly explain why and recommend that you consult your GP for further advice. Your safety is always our priority, and we will never prescribe a treatment that we believe is not clinically appropriate. You will not be charged if your consultation is declined.
Absolutely. We take your privacy extremely seriously. We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Your personal and health data is encrypted, stored securely, and only accessible to authorised members of our clinical team. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). For full details, please read our Privacy Policy.
